Additional support for pupils with particular needs

How will you work with me to help my child who needs additional support from adults at home to access remote education?

We recognise that some pupils, for example some pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), may not be able to access remote education without support from adults at home. We acknowledge the difficulties this may place on families, and we will work with parents and carers to support those pupils in the following ways:

For many pupils with SEND, the teaching may need to be adapted. SEND pupils have a wide range of specific needs and their teachers know their needs well, and how they can be most effectively met to ensure pupils continue to make progress wherever possible if they are not able to be in school.

It is likely that a more individualised planning may need to happen in some cases, and that the support of adults in the home will be a significant advantage where that is possible. However, the whole class remote learning provision may also be useful for pupils with SEND and so should be considered on its merit.

The school Learning Mentor is available to support families with SEND pupils and, where appropriate, will provide coping mechanisms and learning strategies to support children to progress well through an instance of class or school closure.

Children with an EHCP will be encouraged to attend school unless they are needing to self-isolate.
