Governing Body

Welcome to the Governor page; as the newly appointed Chair of Governors I would like to share who we are and some of the things we are involved with …

The Role of a School Governor and our Governing Body

School governors work in partnership with the Headteacher and staff to ensure that our children receive the very best education and whole school experience whilst at Harris Primary School. Our role is strategic and the Headteacher is responsible for the day-to-day leadership and management of the school.

Governors have three key roles:

1      To ensure clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction,

2      To Hold the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and the performance management of staff,

3      To oversee the financial performance of the school and make sure its money is well spent.

Governors are also an excellent source of challenge and support to the Headteacher.

Governors are elected, nominated or co-opted and are representative of parents, teachers, local education authority and the local community.

The Governing Body of Harris Primary School is made up of people from a variety of backgrounds, and each one brings their own experience and expertise.

All Governors are volunteers.

The full governing body and two sub committees meet a minimum of once per term and the minutes from these meetings are available on request from the school office. Most of our work is carried out through two sub committees, each being led by a vice–chair of the Governing Body. Stephen Ratcliffe chairs the Curriculum Committee and Julie Jones chairs the Resources Committee.

All the governors of Harris Primary School are committed to providing the best environment for the children to learn, have fun and feel safe. If you have any questions about the role of governors please contact me via the school contact facility or via the school office.

Please take the time to find out who is who on your child’s governing body. A short synopsis is available for each governor under "Governors".
