Message for Parents - 22.4.2020

Dear Parents/Carers

I hope that you are keeping safe and well and coping with the current situation. We have been blessed with fine weather and I hope you have been able to get out to enjoy it safely. I have taken a few days leave over the last week or so but I wanted to write to keep you updated with news and information from school.

We remain open to look after children of key workers who have no one else to look after them safely at home. We had an average of 5 children each day over the Easter period but this week the numbers have gone up to 12-15 children per day.

Huge thanks to all our school staff, teaching staff and support staff who continue to work our rota system and look after the children so well.

Well done to…

Phoebe, Isla, Emmanuel and Macey for drawing some lovely rainbow pictures and writing messages of thanks to NHS workers whilst they have been at school. These have been displayed on the walls of the pharmacy at RPH.

School Meals Vouchers

If your child is entitled to free school meals you should have received your food vouchers by now. Please contact Mrs Hindmoor (bursar@harris.lancs.sch.uk). Special thanks to Mrs Hindmoor for negotiating this difficult system to get these vouchers out to parents. Parents in some other schools have still not received their vouchers!

Home learning

Please let us know if you have any difficulties in accessing the home learning that your child’s teacher is setting.

The BBC has today launched an education package across TV and online, featuring celebrities and teachers, helping to keep children learning at home and supporting parents.

BBC Bitesize can be accessed here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize

The sector-led Oak National Academy with the approval of the government has now launched its online classroom and resource hub. The Academy offers 180 video lessons each week for schools to use, across a broad range of subjects. The lessons cover children in Reception through to Year 10 and are free to use by both teachers and young people.

The Oak National Academy can be accessed here: https://www.thenational.academy/

Online Safety

Please continue to check on what your child is accessing on their devices. Useful information about how to keep your child safe on line can be found at: https://www.thinkuknow.co.uk/parents/

Message for children

Please find a message for your children attached. I would be grateful if you could read it to them.

Star Awards

I will be giving out virtual Star Awards to children who have done great work at home or who have had a “Harris Standard” attitude. Teachers will nominate children for these awards and parents can too! Please let me know if your child has gone above and beyond with their work or to help at home during these difficult days. Please email me: head@harris.lancs.sch.uk

Stay in touch

If you need to get in touch, please contact the school by email if possible using either bursar@harris.lancs.sch.uk or head@harris.lancs.sch.uk

Best wishes and have a safe weekend!

Mrs Gregory
