Science Investigation (Materials)
This week we found an unhappy, wet teddy who had been left out all night. After cheering him up, we discussed different types of shelters we could build for him incase it happened again. We realised that different shelters are made from different materials depending on their job. For example tipis are made from fabric but sheds are made from wood. The children agreed that the best shelter for Ted would be a tent that he can take with him wherever he goes.
We tested to see which materials were waterproof and which were absorbent. Some materials took longer than others to absorb the water so started to realise that reactions don't happen straight away. We found that plastic was the best material we tested but then discussed plastic pollution and the impact this has on the planet. After we wrote up our investigation, the children went outside to build Ted's tent.
