Week beginning 26.5.20

English

Last week you were asked to plan your mystery story. This week I’d like you to write it. Write a paragraph a day.

Remember to check your work for:

Punctuation: Capital letters and full stops, commas for a list, apostrophes for contraction and possession, exclamation marks, question marks and speech.

Connectives: to open a sentences (the ones to open each paragraph are particularly important for grabbing a reader’s attention) and to join phrases together.

Words: nouns, adjectives, verbs and adverbs.

NOT EVERY PARAGRAPH WILL HAVE ALL OF THESE. YOU SHOULD HAVE THEM ALL BY THE END OF THE STORY.

Maths

Over the next couple of weeks, I’d like you to brush up on written methods for addition and subtraction. You should choose a method that's best for the calculation and best for you.

At the start of the year we learnt using dienes – like this video. You can still use this method if you like by drawing the dienes.

KS2 - how to add using Dienes cubes

A video for Key Stage 2 children and their parents showing how to add two 3-digit numbers together using Dienes cubes. The calculation shown is 263 + 119. Ma...

Moving on from this we used partitioning. (Partitioning like the method above involves breaking the two numbers up into its parts)

KS2 maths (Year 3-6) - Solving 3 digit addition using partitioning

A step by step guide to solving 3 digit addition problems using partitioning. This is part of the quick-look overview video guide to the sample 2016 maths cu...

(The only part I would do differently is to carry under rather than above the numbers)
