Week Beginning Monday 1st June

Good morning Year 2.

English: This week we will continue to learn the nonfiction unit about Birds. Please refer to Day 1 on this week’s Lancashire English plan attached to this post. We did miss Day 5 of last week’s Lancashire planning. If you would still like to complete this, then that is fine or you can start this week’s in the usual format.

Maths: This week we will be learning about Position and Direction, 2D and 3D shapes.

Complete the Zoo Direction Lancashire Activity which is attached below. There are four documents

  • The game instructions (no need to print)
  • Animal Cards
  • Grid
  • Vocabulary (no need to print)

If you don’t have access to a printer then this game can be easily replicated or adapted. You could draw your grid on paper or using chalk on the floor. Fill in your grid with simple illustrations e.g. flower, tree, sunshine etc. Ask your child how they would describe getting from one illustration to another.

Topic: This week we will be learning about our personal hygiene and keeping our minds healthy. Each day I would like you to complete a diary. Talk about your answer with someone in school or at home before writing down your ideas. I will attach each days diary sheet below each day throughout the week. On our main class page, there are three child friendly books about COVID 19 and worries that you can read with your child at home if you haven’t done so already.

Good morning Year 2.

English: Please refer to Day 2 on the Lancashire weekly plan.

Maths: Continue to learn about Position and Direction.

Complete the A Day at the Zoo Lancashire Activity which is attached to this post. This is a great problem solving activity which involves lots of discussion so you can do this with your family. I would advise that an adult helps you with this activity. If you have an older sibling, why not see if they want to help complete the problem.

Topic: Complete todays diary entry. Remember to talk about your ideas before writing them down. Complete the Why We Wash Our Hands experiment.

Good morning Year 2.

English: Please refer to Day 3 on the Lancashire weekly plan for this week’s English.

Maths: Continue to learn about time and position/direction.

Again, an adult or older sibling, will need to guide and support the learning for this activity. This problem also includes counting in 30 minutes intervals so is great for recapping on time work.

Topic: Complete todays diary entry. Remember to talk about your ideas before writing them down. Today you are going to write instructions to tell someone in Reception class how to wash their hands. Read through the Powerpoint attached to this post. Choose the washing hands writing frame attached below and write your instructions.

Good morning Year 2.

English: Please refer to Day 4 on the Lancashire weekly plan for this week’s English. This asks you to read an example of a quiz card from the LoveReading website. I have downloaded this for you and it is attached to this post.

Maths: Today we will be learning about 2D flat shapes.

Complete the two activities and quiz below.

Open the link and make sure the slider is on 2D shapes. Drag around the shape, counting each side and vertices. Before pressing the eye to reveal the 2D shape, write down the name of which shape you think is hiding.

2D shape hunt: Take photos around your house, garden or whilst on a walk of different 2D shapes you can see on everyday objects. Label your pictures with the correct name and show me that you counted the sides and vertices. Send your pictures to me to share on our class page.

Topic: Complete todays diary entry. Remember to talk about your ideas before writing them down. Today you are going to create a dream jar which you will fill with lots of ideas of things that you would like to do when you are able to. You can make one of your own or one for your whole family.

After you have watched the clip read the information below. Complete the two activities and the quiz.

Make 3D shapes at home using resources like twigs and string or straws and playdoh. Take a photo of your shapes, label your photos and count the faces, edges and vertices.
