Week Beginning Monday 22nd June

Good morning Year 2.

English: This week you will have the opportunity to enjoy some of Oliver Jeffers’ most entertaining and thought-provoking books. You’ll even be able to have a go at writing your own in a similar style! Please refer to Day 1 on the Lancashire English Plan which is attached to this post.

Maths: We will continue with our multiplication work from last week using the White Rose Maths videos and activities.

  • Scroll to find the pink tab called Summer Term- Week 6.
  • Find Lesson 1- The 10 times table
  • Watch the Video. At certain points it will ask you to pause and have a go. You should use your home learning book or paper to write your answers to the questions asked on the video.  After you have watched all the video you can complete the worksheet attached below this post.
  • When you have completed all your activities, ask an adult to check your work. Parents and staff please find the answer sheet attached below.

Topic: We are continuing to learn about coding this week using Purple Mash so you will need your log in details. I have set a 2Do for you to complete called ‘Coding Vocabulary Quiz 1’. You learnt these words and definitions in Year 1. Can you remember and match the words to their definitions?

Take care

Miss Rigby

Tuesday 23rd June

Good morning Year 2.

English: Please refer to Day 2 on the Lancashire weekly plan.

Maths: Today we will be learning about sharing in maths.

  • Scroll to find the pink tab called Summer Term- Week 6.
  • Find Lesson 2- Sharing
  • Watch the Video. At certain points it will ask you to pause and have a go. You should use your home learning book or paper to write your answers to the questions asked on the video.  After you have watched all the video you can complete the worksheet attached below this post.
  • When you have completed all your activities, ask an adult to check your work. Parents and staff please find the answer sheet attached below.

Topic: Today you will be using a Purple Mash Program called ‘Air Traffic Control’ which has been set as a 2Do. Watch each clip before completing the coding challenge. Press the green ‘play’ button at the top centre to check if your algorithm works. If it is correct you will see a flashing arrow at the top next to the ‘stop’ button which says ‘Next Challenge’. If this arrow doesn’t appear you should return to your algorithm to find the error and debug (fix) it.

There are 4 challenges and the last one allows you to build your own airport and add more interesting algorithms such as collision detectors and sounds. Your work should save automatically when you exit the program because I have set it as a 2do. I look forward to seeing your own airport algorithms.

Take care

Miss Rigby

Good morning Year 2.

English: Please refer to Day 3 on the Lancashire weekly plan for this week’s English. I have attached the opening extract from The Day the Crayons Came Home to this post. Send your postcard to me so I can share them with the class.

Topic: Think about the airport game you played yesterday. Today you are going to learn how to add a scene and characters to begin to create a game. See the challenge cards attached below this post. Your challenge today it is recreating the game scenes and characters on each of the cards. Open your 2Do called ‘Free code chimp’

In the top right corner click on the ‘Design’ button.

In the control panel on the left, click the icon that looks like a computer screen and if your click on the ? next to ‘image’ you can find the background your trying to re-create.

Next like the planes yesterday start adding the images/characters shown on the challenge card. You can change the name, movement, size in the control panel.

English: Please refer to Day 5 on the Lancashire weekly plan for this week’s English. If you would like a book review template, there is a detailed one attached to this post or there are lots on the internet. Simply search for ‘Year 2 book review template’ and find one that your child would like to complete.

Maths: Today we will be completing the Friday Maths Challenge for this week. You will need to work as a family to solve these problems.

  • Scroll to find the pink tab called Summer Term- Week 6.
  • Find The Friday Maths Challenge for Summer Term Week 6.
  • The most suitable questions for Year 2 are 1, 2 & 3. But why don’t you work with your friends or family on the rest of the problems. Do as many as you can! Help each other out.
  • Together can you complete the 10 maths challenges attached to this post? These questions are about all areas of maths, not just what we have learnt this week.

Topic: Continue to develop and adapt your game that you started yesterday. Remember if you don’t like one of your algorithms or it is not behaving how you wanted then debug (fix) the error. Problem solving and perseverance is important when you are coding.

I look forward to playing your games.

Take care

Miss Rigby
