Week Beginning Monday 30th March

Friday 3rd April

Good morning Year 2,

Please find today's learning below:

English: Today I would like you to combine this weeks learning. Re-write your sentences that you have built up over the week, if you didn't do so yesterday. When writing, focus on your letter formation, making sure that sky, grass and underground letters are the correct size and sat correctly on the line. If you're in Miss Rigby's handwriting group don't forget leading lines and attempting to join some letters. Also punctuate your sentences with a tall capital letter and full stop. Once your sentences are complete, underline the word classes in the correct colour. Take a photo of your work, send it me by email and I will share it on our class page.

Nouns: yellow          Adjectives: red          Verbs: green          Adverbs: purple

If you're playing with a partner unselect the 'play computer' box. Read the instructions carefully. Can you work out a winning strategy so that you can always beat your opponent? It is important that the children are exposed to telling the time on a daily basis so please continue to work on this with them at home in real life situations.

Topic: Continue to make your vehicle. Your main body should be stuck onto your chassis (base) and your chassis should have the axles and wheels attached/rolling. Once your structure is made, finish it off by adding colour, any writing and its main features. Add colour as best you can with the equipment you have at home such as paint, paper, felt tips. It may take a couple of days to completely finish your vehicles but once they are finished, feel free to take a photo or video for me to share on our class page.

Thursday 2nd April

Good morning Year 2,

Please find today's learning below:

English: Today we will be learning about adverbsAn adverb is simply a word that describes a verb (an action or a doing word).

Read the information below the clip and complete the highlighting activity.

Re-read your sentences that you wrote yesterday. Improve each sentence by adding an adverb to describe each verb. You can either re-write your sentences or put an arrow and write your adverb above.

Maths:

Level 1 is the expected level in Year 2. Level 2 is greater depth. Level 3 is KS2. Alternatively, you can create times using the clock you made on Monday. Ask an adult to call out a time for you make or make a time and write this in words in your home learning book.

Topic: Use your designs to make your vehicle. Today you might want to just focus on the main body structure and attaching it to the chassis, wheels and axles you made on Tuesday. Take photos or video of you building each stage and feel free to send them to me to show your working progress. Enjoy!

Wednesday 1st April

Good morning Year 2,

Please find today's learning below:

English: Today we will be learning about verbsA verb is a word used to describe an action, state or occurrence

Read the information below the clip and complete the highlighting activity and verb quiz.

Recap on your noun phrases that you created yesterday. In your home learning books write sentences which include your noun, adjectives and a verb. Start each sentence in different ways. e.g. Mum is cooking with a brown, wooden spoon. Later today, I will play with my colourful, tiny lego pieces.

Maths: Continue to practise telling the time.

Start at game 1 and 2 to recap on telling the time to the hour and half past the hour. Then move onto quarter past/to and 5 minute intervals. Alternatively, you can create times using the clock you made on Monday. Ask an adult to call out a time for you make or make a time and write this in words in your home learning book.

Topic: Log into Purple Mash and check your 2do's. There should be two tasks set. First, look at '2do: Miss Rigby's Vehicle Design'. My chosen vehicle is a police car. I looked at pictures online and tried to use the correct colours, text and features in my design. Next, look at '2do: Your vehicle Design'.  Here you will be designing your own vehicle, which you thought about on Monday. Look at images online to help you choose colours, any writing that might be on your vehicle and features such as sirens. Save your work and I will share your designs on our class page.

Good morning Year 2,

Please find today's learning below:

English: Today you will be learning about adjectivesAn adjective is a word that describes a noun (the name of a thing or a place).

Read the information below the video and complete the highlighting activity and adjective quiz.

Recap on your list of nouns from yesterdays learning. On a new page, in your home learning book, re-write your nouns with an adjective to describe them. Your adjectives might be the colour, size, material, smell, taste or emotions. If you add one adjective to your noun then you will have made a noun phrase. If you add two adjectives to your noun then you will have made an expanded noun phrase

On the left hand side there are 4 levels. You can either work through each level at a time or select the level you think you can achieve. NB this game is not tablet friendly so will need to be completed on a laptop/computer. Alternatively, you can create times using the clock you made on Monday. Ask an adult to call out a time for you make or make a time and write this in words in your home learning book.

Topic: Today you will be learning about wheels, axles and chassis. Read through the attached file which explains the two ways you can make axles and wheels and how to attach them to a chassis (the base of your vehicle). Go around your house and collect two axles (straws, skewers), four wheels (milk lids, cardboard cut outs) and a chassis (card). Make the base of your vehicle and test if it rolls.

Miss Rigby

Here are some ideas for making your analogue clock. Feel free to send me a picture of you and your clock.
Here is the RWI complex sound chart that you should use to help you with today's English work.

Good morning Year 2. I hope you had a lovely weekend. Well done to those who completed their home learning last week and especially your Madagascar presentations. They were all brilliant and you clearly learned lots at home with your parents. They should now all be on our class page so take a look at your friends work. You can continue to email any more presenations through if you've not done so and would like to.

Please find today's learning below:

English: This week you will be learning about nouns, adjectives, verbs and adverbs. Each day will build on the previous day so should be completed in order.

After that, scroll down and complete the hightlighting activities and noun quiz.

Finally, go around your house and/or garden and collect nouns (person, place or objects/something you can touch/somewhere you and travel to). In your home learning book write a list of your nouns. Use the complex sound chart which is attached above this post to spell your nouns correctly. Draw the dots and dashes under each word. You will need your list of nouns for tomorrows learning.

Maths: This week in Maths we will be learning about time. Today, I would like you to make your own analogue clock. Get creative using things at home such as chalk, stones, lego pieces, paper plates etc. The bigger your clock the better. Look at the attached file above for analogue clock ideas. Take a photo of you and your clocks and I will share them on our class page.

Topic: As promised Year 2, we are still going to spend the week before Easter completing our Design Technology project 'Making Vehicles'. Start to learn about different types of vehicles and their features by opening the attached file. In your home learning book, write which type of vehicle you would like to make this week. Draw a picture of it or print of a picture and label the parts. e.g. ambulance, ice cream van, car etc. Start to look around your house for boxes, materials and wheels you could use to make your vehicle. Collect them in a box for later in the week.
