We have updated our reading corner and we have lots of new, exciting books to discover. Your child can borrow a reading for pleasure book every Monday. To develop our Bookflix corner, it would be wonderful if your child wrote a book review to display for other children to read. Please find the Bookflix review template attached below.

The boys and girls have started rehearsing our nativity called 'The Sleepy Stargazer'. This years nativity is going to be more challenging but we didn't want our Year 2s missing out on the opportunity to perform. More than ever, I ask that you support us with this at home. Some of the children have been given lines to learn so please ensure they practise these daily at home. They should know their lines off by heart and project their voice so it can be heard on the video recording.
Year 2 also have three songs to learn. Attached below you will find the song lyrics and you can click on the links to navigate to the songs. All children should must practise these so the words can be heard clearly on the recording. We can not rely on Reception and Year 1 this year as they are learning different songs for our performance.
Wake Up Philip!
Don't be Afraid
This week in Year 2
It's been lovely to have many of you back with us in school this week, after a few sore throats and runny noses. The children are now settled into our new bubble routines and are starting to become more independent. I hope you're all managing to access our weekly homework and spelling lists at home. Some parents have asked why the children don't have reading books for the weekend. This is because we collect them in on a Friday and Miss Wharton wears gloves to change them. We then quarantine the books over the weekend. Only your child touches their book pack on Monday morning. If you would like to read for pleasure over the weekend please use the Oxford Owl class login and EPIC reading entering our class code xgx6135.
Have a lovely weekend Year 2.
How to complete homework tasks on devices. No need to print them off!
I hope you and your families are well.
I thought it would be useful to share a way of completing worksheets on your devices (phones/tablets) rather than printing them off. It might help you moving forward and we continue to set homework and spellings via our class page. You will need to download Adobe Acrobat onto your device and create an email which is simple to do.
1) Open the homework worksheet on your device.
2) Look for the option 'OPEN IN...'
3) Select the 'Acrobat' icon or 'Import to Acrobat'. Again, you will have to have this downloaded on your device.
4) The worksheet should open for your child to work on. You should help them to let them get used to this style of recording. The options they should use is 'Add Text' to type an answer or sentence OR 'Draw' which is better for symbols and writing numbers.
5) You can then email their work with me and I will see that they've completed the homework task.
Take a look at the steps and photos below from a previous pupil during home learning. This is completely optional and if you want to continue how you have so far that is fine but I thought some of you might find it useful as it saves time, paper and ink. Have a play with this and if you want to complete some activities this way then you can.
I hope you find this useful and email me if you have any questions.

Transition Booklet for Year 1 to Year 2
Welcome to our new school website. Please take the time to navigate around our class page and familiarise yourself with how to access different links.
Unfortunately, this weeks home learning did not transfer to the new site so if you couldn't find today's work that is why. I am currently sat having a play and learning how to use our new format so please bare with me.
I think I have managed to upload Thursday 2nd July and Friday 3rd July home learning for this week on the usual home learning link.
Year 1 and 2 Dance
Miss Sumner has created a short dance video for the children in each class to learn. (below)
Practise the dance at home. If you can, film yourself performing the dance and email the video to your teacher.
Mr Cooper will then put the video clips together to create a school dance video.
If we all learn the dance, we can perform a whole school dance performance when we are all back to school in September (hopefully).
Free Book Monster and Me
This is a lovely book to share with your child. It is all about talking and sharing our feelings if we are ever upset or worried.
Free book: How To Not Go To School
I thought I would share another free book that has been published during this time at home. It is called How to Not Go to School by Mike Forde. I would recommend sharing this book together and reading it aloud to them.
Free Child Friendly Book about Covid-19
This is a brilliant free book produced by Axel Scheffler about Covid-19 just for children. If you are going to share it with your child, I would advise that you read it aloud to them. Click the link below to read general information and access the book towards to bottom of the page.

Madagascar is on TV this afternoon
I have just seen that the film Madagascar is on TV this afternoon. This would be a lovely way to end your week of learning all about the country. You could also watch it on catch up or through another source if you missed it.
Take care and keep smiling Year 2
For all home learning activities, please see the 'Home Learning' tab in the left hand column under the Year 2 heading. I will be adding short daily tasks for children to complete at home when possible. If your child has access to school, we will provide time for them to complete these activities during the day. I feel it is important that the children still maintain some structure to their day so have attached an optional/suggested daily timetable to support them (and parents) over the coming weeks. See the top right next to the title.
RWI are providing daily live streaming sessions to support pupils learning phonics at home. Year 2 pupils would still benefit from tuning into the phonic sessions to support their reading and spelling. A new film will be shown Monday to Friday and available to watch for 24 hours. Year 2 pupils should watch the Set 3 session showing at 10:30 each day. These sessions can be accessed on the RWI Youtube channel or via their Facebook page
For those children in Year 2 that complete IDL every morning, I have wrote their login and password in the front of their yellow homework book. They should continue to complete the short activity daily to maintain progress.
Friday Homework 20/3/20
Children will need to adjust the fraction bar for each given fraction and then share the counters to find the fraction of each number. Please record each calculation in your homework books.
Home Learning Pack
If your child is at home and the school is still open, the activities in this pack will keep them entertained and their learning going. The link below takes you to the free downloadable Twinkl Home Learning Pack.
