School Sport's Premium Funding
PE and School Sport Premium Funding
The Government’s PE and Sports premium funding has continued into the 2022-2023 academic year. Since 2013 the Government has provided additional funding to primary schools to improve the provision of physical education [PE] and sport. This funding, provided jointly by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport, will be allocated to primary school head teachers. The funding is ring-fenced and therefore can only be spent on provision of PE and sport in school. The Government have made it clear that schools must use the funding to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of PE and sports they offer pupils.
Physical Education and school sport play a very important part in the life of Harris Primary School. We believe that P.E. and school sport contribute to the holistic development of our children and through participation, our children build and learn more about our key values but also our aims - to cherish their childhoods and be prepared for their futures.
Whilst we pride ourselves on being an active, healthy school already, we welcome this additional funding to further develop PE and sporting opportunities for our pupils at Harris Primary School. We know that physical activity has numerous benefits for children’s physical health, as well as their mental wellbeing. Children who are physically active are happier, more resilient and more trusting of their peers.
