Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
At Harris Primary School, we are dedicated to supporting every child to reach their full potential. We strive to meet the individual needs of all our pupils and to ensure that every child achieves the best possible educational and personal outcomes.
In keeping with our mission statement, our goal is to nurture each child’s academic ability while also supporting their social, moral, physical, and spiritual development — all within a happy, secure, and caring environment. We believe that every teacher is a teacher of every child, including those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
You can find our SEND Policy, which reflects the latest SEN Code of Practice, along with our School’s Local Offer and SEND Information Report, available to download below as PDF documents.
Our SENDCo (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator) is Mrs Cookson. She can be contacted through the school office at 01772 862788 or by email at SENCO@harris.lancs.sch.uk.

Working in Partnership with Parents and Carers
At Harris Primary School, we recognise that parents and carers are the experts on their own children. We are committed to ensuring that families are not only informed about their child’s progress and provision but are actively involved throughout their school journey.
We achieve this through open, ongoing communication between home and school, encouraging parents to contribute to personal target-setting, and fostering a warm, welcoming environment where every parent and carer of a child on the SEND register feels supported.
Throughout the academic year, we offer a range of opportunities for parents to engage with their child’s learning. These include:
Regular meetings with class teachers to discuss progress and next steps
SEND coffee mornings, where parents can meet, share experiences, and hear from visiting professionals
An open-door policy, allowing parents to meet with the SENDCo, class teachers, or Pastoral Team whenever needed
At Harris, we believe that every child should have access to the same learning and life opportunities. We value the partnership between school and home as essential in helping all children reach their full potential.
